James and the Mystery Dog
With a racing heart, the citizen raced in the direction of the small dog. When he noticed that it was upset, he realized he had to assist. The dog growled fiercely as he got closer, clearly terrified. He bent to check below, but the dog growled and barked, preventing him from doing so. James appeared out of nowhere and yelled at the person to stop bothering the dog. James was left with the frightened, barking dog while the citizen ran away. What was that man looking for, and who was he? James pondered.

James crouched next to the terrified dog and calmed him with soft pats and cooing sounds. He needed to move quickly. In an attempt to soothe and comfort the dog enough to get off the carpeting, James kept patting him. James received grim news from the rescue crew: the fire was growing. There was not much time left. He heard the team’s cries and observed their anxious faces. He turned back to the dog and tried to get him to go off the rug, but he refused.
