James didn’t think twice. He rushed back to the little, defenseless puppy because he understood that every animal’s life was equally vital. He was determined to rescue it, and he was successful. In hindsight, however, he doubted that he could save what was beneath the dog. He felt the dog’s pulse pounding quickly as he raised it, doubtful but determined to try. He looked about, saw a little hole, and looked inside, wondering whether he might salvage what was underneath.

James Faces a Smoke-Filled Hallway
James will soon encounter his first difficulties, though. He was immediately confronted with a difficulty, but he was determined to survive. Earlier, he had followed the same path, but now the smoke filled the corridor, making it hard to go. Time was running short, and he had to make a decision fast, so panic struck. Given the dangers, he was forced to choose the riskiest course of action and hope for the best.
