May of this year kicked off a whole new frenzy in the coffee world when Starbucks introduced a new pink-purple swirl of a fairy-tale drink: the Unicorn Frappuccino. Starbucks themselves described the drink in the best way possible, “Magical flavors start off sweet and fruity transforming to pleasantly sour.” And then they went on to boast that “It’s finished with whipped cream-sprinkled pink and blue fairy powders.”
Now such a drink has received some pretty mixed reviews and it’s definitely one of those love-or-hate-’em kind of scenarios. We’re just glad that the drink itself was available for a mere week.
However with that being said, the introduction of a magical drink inspired a new craze, one that you desperately need to try, Mermaid Lemonade. The recipe itself is from The Glowing Fridge, and the colorful concoction tastes just as delicious as it looks. However, it’s not just a scrumptious drink, it’s super healthy too. The Caribbean-blue color is brought out from spirulina powder, which is an algae loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Get this, that same powder even helps to control allergies due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Oh yeah, moreover, there is coconut vinegar, which just so happens to have similar health benefits as good ol’ apple cider vinegar.
What are you waiting for? Try this lemonade recipe as soon as possible and don’t be surprised how quickly it turns into your go-to drink.
Mermaid Lemonade Ingredients:
3 cups filtered water
1/2 lemon, juiced
1 tablespoon coconut vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
1-2 teaspoons maple syrup, optional (or agave nectar)
1/8-1/4 teaspoon spirulina powder
Handful of ice cubes
Directions:
Pour the water into a mason jar, or any cup of your choosing, and stir in all the ingredients until well combined. Or you can even “adult” up the Mermaid Lemonade with some “spirits”.
In conclusion:
Quite simply, when life’s a beach, just make some Mermaid Lemonade. Cheers.
