It can be really exhausting and draining to work at a desk job full-time. From the long hours to spending the entire day sitting in front of a screen, it definitely takes a toll on your mental and physical health. In theory, the best thing to do in this case is to make sure you’re eating right, sleeping enough, and working out on a regular basis, but let’s be honest: these things are easier said than done. In fact, it’s more likely to get burned out and feel drained at the end of the day than to get home motivated and ready to hit the gym. It only makes sense. However, in order to feel better, you need to break the cycle of exhaustion and start trying to take little steps towards bettering yourself. With time, the more healthy habits you have, the better you’re going to feel overall. As a result, you’ll have more motivation to keep going and improving yourself. The biggest challenge is getting started if you ask us. So, what can you do to create a healthier routine and keep sane while working a desk job?
Sit Up Straight
In order to keep your body as pain-free as possible, make sure to practice good posture at work. Having bad posture can lead to neck, shoulder, and back pain. Not to mention, spine alignment issues, which you want to avoid. Hunching over your desk all day will do some serious damage to the body.
Stay Active
As we’ve mentioned, this is easier said than done. However, there are little things you can start doing that will help. It’s especially important to stay active when you’re sedentary for most of the day. Be sure to get up every hour for a few minutes. Walk around the office a little to get your blood flowing. Maybe do a little bit of stretching. Another way to get some more movement into your day is by walking to work if possible. If not, maybe start going on short walks in the evening around the neighborhood?
Make Friends
This one is a must if you want to stay sane at work. Make some friends in the office! Having buddies at work will completely change your day around. It will make the time go by so much faster than it would otherwise. Not to mention, it’s fun working in an office with people you’re friends with.
Take Your Breaks
Taking breaks is absolutely crucial in order to maintain your sanity at work. Especially if you’re stuck in a cubicle all day. Be sure to take your lunch break to help you recharge halfway through the day – eat outside if possible. Don’t forget to take your morning and afternoon breaks as well.
Eat Well
This is very important. It goes without saying that eating healthy is crucial for a healthy life. Despite the fact that it’s easier to choose fast food options, try to avoid doing that. In order to save yourself time, prep meals and bring them with to work. Use the time you have on the weekend to make healthy lunches for the week ahead.
Listen To Music
When the office gets a little too loud, put on some headphones and listen to music. Doing so will help you focus and get some work done while also listening to your favorite tunes.
Practice Self Care
Last but most certainly not least, don’t forget to take care of yourself after work when you get home. Use that time to relax and unwind. Whether it’s by meditating, hanging out with friends, reading a good book, or binging your favorite show, take the time to recharge and prepare yourself for the next day.
